Definition of spouse
For the Desjardins Group Pension Plan, or DGPP, the definition of spouse is different from that used for the Group Insurance Plan. For the DGPP, the spouse is recognized as the person who I am married to or in a civil union with at the time of retirement and who is not legally living separate and apart from me.
If I am not married or in a civil union, the common-law partner I have been in a marital relationship with for at least 3 years (or at least 1 year if we had or adopted a child together, or if one of us adopted the other's child during this period), will be recognized as my spouse when I retire.
My common-law spouse can also be recognized as my spouse for the purposes of the DGPP if he or she has been my common-law spouse for at least 1 year and if I submit a request to the Pension Committee.
