In the event of death
It's reassuring to know that my spouse and beneficiaries will be protected in the event of my death.
In the event of my death before retirement, my spouse or beneficiary would receive the value of my pension as though I had stopped working for Desjardins the day before my death. The total death benefit would be paid to my spouse first. However, my spouse can, for whatever reason, waive this benefit by signing the "Spouse's Benefit Waiver form provided under section 88.1 of the Supplemental Pension Plans Act," that I can find under the "Life Events/Death" tab on the website.
This waiver can be revoked at any time before my death or before the start of my pension payments.
If I don't have a spouse, the pension is payable to my designated beneficiary.
In the event of my death after retirement, the plan would confirm the type of pension I chose when I retired and would pay the benefits accordingly, whether as a pension to my spouse or as the value of my pension to my beneficiary.
